Felling a Large White Oak Tree

It is mature! Better Use It Or Lose It!
Cutting the notch, low as I can go

The tree is larger than the saw's bar, so I cut in from both sides

One whack to knock out the wedge

Bore out the tree and set one plastic wedge in the cut

Cut out the other side of the tree

One "crack" and its time to run

The telltale blue stain shows there is fence wire in this old tree
I'll sawmill right through this 100 year old wire as the boards are more valuable than the band saw blade

Time for a break

Two nine foot logs and one eleven foot log

This log is a heavy as I can lift and move with the prehauler

Cutting up the top is the hard and dangerous part

The three logs make a load. I will quartersaw all these logs for flooring.
